Quick verdict: a grid that remembers where it has already paid
Duck Hunters is Nolimit City's take on the scatter-pays cascade slot, and its one big idea is simple to say and hard to predict: every position on the board keeps a multiplier, and that multiplier doubles each time a winning symbol is cleared from it. In the base game those values reset after each spin. In the bonus rounds they stay put. Everything else in the design, from bombs to xWays symbols to the Day 1024 booster, exists to push those per-cell multipliers higher, faster.
The result is an Extreme-volatility game with a 96.05% top RTP, a 17.07% hit frequency and a ceiling of 30,000x the bet. Most spins do nothing. The rare sequence that stacks cascades on the same cells can climb toward the x8192 per-position limit. If you like understanding why a slot behaves the way it does, this is one of the more readable Nolimit designs, because nearly every feature feeds a single visible meter.
Duck Hunters: key rules
| Spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Pay system | Scatter pays, 8 or more matching symbols anywhere |
| Hit frequency | 17.07% |
| Position multiplier cap | x8192 |
| Bonus tiers | Duck Hunt Spins, Hawk Eye Spins, Big Game Spins |
| Feature buys | Yes, where permitted (see below) |
How a win clears the board and leaves a mark behind
Duck Hunters has no paylines. A win forms when 8 or more of the same regular symbol land anywhere across the six reels and five rows. The paytable is widely reported as follows: the lower symbols (a beer can, a whisky bottle, a crossbow, a nest and a duck among them) pay small fractions of the bet for 8 or 9 matches and up to 2x for 12 or more, while the premium character symbols pay between 2.5x and 5x the bet for 12 or more. Across the whole table, the smallest clusters are worth roughly 0.1x to 0.3x and clusters of 12 or more roughly 1x to 5x.
The values are listed by cluster size, so it helps to read the table from the bottom row up: the first number is what the minimum 8-symbol cluster is worth, and the last is what 12 or more is worth. Even that top figure, 5x for a premium symbol, is small next to the 30,000x ceiling. The gap between the two is filled almost entirely by the position multipliers described next.
Those numbers are low on purpose. Base symbol values are not where this game's return lives. The engine that matters starts after the win is paid:
- Every symbol involved in the win is removed from the reels.
- Each position a winning symbol was removed from receives a x2 multiplier.
- New symbols fall into the empty spaces.
- If a later win in the same cascade sequence removes a symbol from a position that already carries a multiplier, that value doubles: x2 becomes x4, x4 becomes x8, and so on.
- The doubling continues up to x8192 on any single position.
Wild symbols substitute for regular paying symbols to help complete clusters. Bonus scatter symbols are separate and are not paid through the scatter-pays count.
In the base game the multipliers reset to x1 when the spin, including all of its cascades, ends. So a base game spin needs a long uninterrupted cascade chain to build meaningful values. That is where the 17.07% hit frequency matters: fewer than one spin in five produces any win, and a chain of many consecutive wins on overlapping cells is far rarer.
Bombs and xWays: the two ways the game forces multipliers upward
Waiting for natural cascades to land on the same cells is slow. Two modifiers speed it up.
The Bomb
A Bomb symbol can land on the reels. It activates before the next cascade. When it explodes, it removes all regular paying symbols in the 3x3 area around it and doubles the multiplier on every affected space. Scatter and Wild symbols are not removed by the blast.
The practical effect is that a Bomb can double up to nine positions at once without needing any win on those cells. A cluster of x2 cells next to a Bomb becomes a cluster of x4 cells in a single step, and the cleared spaces refill with new symbols that may connect into a win on top of them.
xWays and Infectious xWays
An xWays symbol transforms into a regular paying symbol when it is revealed and increases its position multiplier by 2, 4 or 8 times. That is a direct, one-cell jump rather than the step-by-step doubling a cascade produces.
The Infectious version goes further. When it reveals its symbol, every other copy of that same symbol currently on the reels is infected and expands to the same size. Because Duck Hunters pays anything with 8 or more matches, spreading one symbol across the board is a direct route to an 8-plus cluster sitting on top of fresh multipliers.
In the base game you can see standard xWays. Infectious xWays is mainly relevant as a bonus round upgrade, explained next.
The three bonus tiers and the upgrades behind them
Bonus scatter symbols decide which free spins round you get. More scatters means more spins and more guaranteed upgrades.
| Scatters | Round | Spins | Upgrades |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | Duck Hunt Spins | 7 | 1 random upgrade |
| 4 | Hawk Eye Spins | 8 | 2 random upgrades |
| 5 | Big Game Spins | 10 | All 3 upgrades |
What changes once the round starts
The key rule is that position multipliers remain in place between free spins. A cell that reaches x16 on the first spin still shows x16 when the second spin starts. That turns the whole round into one long build, which is why the bonus carries most of the game's top-end potential.
The round also uses a +1 Shot symbol. Each one that lands awards one extra free spin. Extra spins matter more here than in most slots, because each additional spin is another chance to collect on multipliers that have already been built.
The three upgrades
Before the spins begin, the round applies its upgrades. Duck Hunt Spins gets one chosen at random, Hawk Eye Spins gets two, and Big Game Spins gets all three:
- Upgraded xWays: standard xWays symbols become Infectious xWays for the round, so every reveal spreads a symbol across the grid.
- Upgraded Bomb: Bombs clear and double a 5x5 area instead of 3x3. On a six-by-five grid, a 5x5 blast placed centrally touches most of the board.
- Extra +2 Shots: the +1 Shot symbol is replaced by +2 Shots, so each one adds two free spins instead of one.
Taken together, the tiers are not just "more spins". Big Game Spins starts with persistent multipliers, a board-sized Bomb, spreading xWays and doubled spin extensions all at once. That combination is the design's clearest path toward the top prize.
Feature buys and boosters, priced and explained
Nolimit City sells access to nearly every part of Duck Hunters through its xBet and bonus buy menu. Availability depends on the market, and the buy options are widely reported as unavailable in the UK. The feature buy RTP is commonly listed as 96.07%, marginally above the top base configuration.
Direct bonus buys
| Option | Cost | What it gives |
|---|---|---|
| Duck Hunt Spins | 70x the bet | 7 spins, 1 random upgrade |
| Hawk Eye Spins | 200x the bet | 8 spins, 2 random upgrades |
| Big Game Spins | 600x the bet | 10 spins, all 3 upgrades |
| Lucky Draw | 235x the bet | 50% Duck Hunt, 25% Hawk Eye, 25% Big Game |
The Lucky Draw is worth reading carefully. It costs more than three Duck Hunt buys, and half the time that is exactly what it delivers. The other half splits evenly between Hawk Eye and Big Game. It is a randomiser, not a discount.
Per-spin boosters
These change a single spin rather than buying a bonus outright:
- xBet (2x the bet): the spin costs double and makes free spins 5 times more likely to trigger, according to Nolimit City.
- Day 2 Spins (2.8x the bet): the spin starts with an initial position multiplier value of x2.
- Day 64 Spins (90x the bet): the spin starts with an initial multiplier value of x64.
- Day 1024 Spins (3,000x the bet): the spin starts with an initial multiplier value of x1024.
The Day boosters are the purest expression of this review's angle. Instead of paying for free spins, you pay to skip the early doublings on every cell. A x1024 starting value means the first cascade on any position lifts it to x2048, with only a few doublings left before the x8192 cap. At 3,000x the bet per spin, the price reflects that.
The Extra Spin offer
When a normal base game spin ends and multipliers are still sitting on the grid, the game may offer to sell you one more spin that keeps all of those position multipliers. Bonus scatter symbols do not land during this Extra Spin. No fixed price is published for it, which fits an offer that depends on what is left on the board.
RTP 96.05% and Extreme volatility in plain terms
The 96.05% figure is the top configuration. It means that over an extremely large number of spins the game is designed to return 96.05% of total stakes, with the remaining 3.95% as the long-run house margin. Lower configurations are widely reported, going down to 92.04%. The version a platform runs changes that long-run figure but not the rules or the features.
Extreme is Nolimit City's highest volatility label. Combined with a 17.07% hit frequency, it means the return is concentrated in a small number of large outcomes. Many spins return nothing, most wins are a fraction of the bet, and the rare long cascade or strong bonus accounts for a large share of the 96.05%. Short sessions can land far above or far below the long-run figure. Neither RTP nor volatility says anything about the next spin.
The feature buy RTP of 96.07% is almost the same as base play. Buying a bonus does not improve the long-run return in any meaningful way. It only moves your results toward the high-variance part of the game sooner.
How 30,000x is actually reached
The max win is capped at 30,000x the bet. That is a long way from anything the base symbol values can produce on their own, and the gap is the best way to understand how the top prize works.
Given base symbol values of no more than 5x for a 12-plus premium cluster, the cap cannot be approached through symbol values alone. It requires three things to line up:
- High position multipliers on many cells, ideally in the thousands.
- Large clusters of premium symbols landing across those cells.
- Enough spins for both to happen, which is why persistent multipliers in the bonus matter.
Big Game Spins stacks the odds as far as the design allows: 5x5 Bombs double up to 25 cells at once, Infectious xWays spreads a symbol across multiplied cells, and +2 Shots extends the round. Day 1024 Spins attacks the same problem from the other direction by starting every cell high. When the total reaches 30,000x, the round ends at the cap.
Duck Hunters against its own sequels
Duck Hunters started a short series, and both follow-ups are published on Nolimit City's site.
Duck Hunters: Happy Hour (released 13 January 2026) keeps scatter pays, the x8192 position multipliers and the same three bonus tiers of 7, 8 and 10 spins. It changes the board to a 4-5-6-6-5-4 reel shape, lists a 96.07% RTP and raises the max win to 33,333x.
Duck Hunters 2 (released 10 September 2026) lists a 96.00% RTP, a 17.68% hit frequency and a max win of 40,000x. Its position multipliers go up to x16,384, double the original's limit. It is also widely reported to add optional side bets and extra buy options aimed at xWays and Bombs. Its grid is described in more than one way, so we don't state a size here.
Against those, the original is the simplest version: a regular six-by-five board, the lowest cap in the series and the fewest optional extras. That simplicity makes it the clearest place to learn how the position multiplier system works before the sequels add layers on top.
Who Duck Hunters suits
This game suits players who enjoy long dry spells punctuated by rare, large outcomes, and who find a visible multiplier grid more engaging than a hidden paytable. If you like watching a cell tick from x2 to x4 to x8 and planning around where a Bomb might land, the design rewards that attention with information, even though it can't be influenced.
It suits someone less well if they want frequent small wins. A 17.07% hit frequency and fractional base symbol values mean long stretches with little happening. Players who prefer structured bonuses with predictable pacing will also find the Extra Spin offers and booster menu more clutter than choice.
Duck Hunters: the strong points and the drawbacks
Pros
- One clear core mechanic: every feature feeds the same per-cell multipliers, so the game is easy to reason about.
- Persistent multipliers in all three bonus tiers turn free spins into a single cumulative build.
- Clearly tiered bonuses with published upgrade counts and fixed buy prices.
- Top RTP of 96.05%, with a feature buy RTP of 96.07%.
Cons
- Extreme volatility and a 17.07% hit frequency mean long losing runs are normal.
- Lower RTP configurations down to 92.04% exist, and the version in use isn't always obvious.
- Base symbol values are very small, so ordinary wins feel minor without multipliers.
Duck Hunters FAQ
Is Duck Hunters 6x5 or 5x5?
It is 6x5. Nolimit City's reel spec lists six reels of five rows. Some descriptions mention a five-by-five board, but the reels themselves are six wide.
How many symbols do you need for a win?
Eight or more matching regular symbols anywhere on the grid. Position doesn't matter.
Do the multipliers carry over between spins?
Not in the base game, where they reset when the spin's cascades finish. In Duck Hunt, Hawk Eye and Big Game Spins they stay in place from spin to spin.
What is the highest multiplier a single position can reach?
x8192. Each cleared winning symbol doubles its position's multiplier, and Bombs double every cell in their blast area.
What do the three bonus upgrades do?
Upgraded xWays makes xWays symbols infectious, Upgraded Bomb expands the blast from 3x3 to 5x5, and Extra +2 Shots makes each Shot symbol add two free spins instead of one.
What does the Lucky Draw buy give you?
For 235x the bet, it awards Duck Hunt Spins 50% of the time, Hawk Eye Spins 25% of the time and Big Game Spins 25% of the time.
What is Day 1024 Spins?
A booster costing 3,000x the bet that starts the spin with a position multiplier value of x1024, so cascades begin close to the x8192 limit.
What is the RTP of Duck Hunters?
96.05% at its top configuration, with lower versions reported down to 92.04%. The feature buy RTP is reported as 96.07%.
