Verdict: few releases, sharp edges

Nolimit City makes slots that are meant to divide opinion. The themes are often dark or deliberately provocative, the volatility is set very high, and the rules are layered with the studio's own trademarked mechanics. It releases fewer games than most large studios, and each one tends to be built around one big, readable idea.

That makes the catalogue rewarding to study and hard to play casually. Most spins pay nothing, and the value sits in rare sequences.

An Evolution brand since 2022

Evolution describes Nolimit City as a studio established in 2014. Co-founder Jonas Tegman was quoted when Evolution agreed to buy the company in June 2022. The deal closed in August 2022. Nolimit City became Evolution's fourth slot brand, alongside NetEnt, Red Tiger and Big Time Gaming.

At the time of the deal, Yogonet reported offices in Malta, Stockholm and Gurugram in India. Evolution's announcement singled out Mental, San Quentin and East Coast/West Coast, and described the games as having "sometimes provocative themes and a humorous touch".

iGaming Business also noted the studio's relatively infrequent releases. The demo network we use carries 96 titles from Nolimit City, a smaller library than most of the large studios we cover.

The xMechanics toolkit

Evolution groups Nolimit City's trademarked features under the name xMechanics. The ones you'll see most often in game titles are:

  • xWays. A symbol that opens up to reveal several copies of the same paying symbol, increasing the number of ways that spin can pay.
  • xNudge. A wild that lands partly in view nudges up or down until it fills the reel, and its multiplier goes up by one with each nudge.
  • xBomb. A wild that explodes and clears the symbols around it, so new ones can drop in.
  • xSplit. Listed by Evolution as part of the same family and used in game titles.

The idea behind all of them is the same. They change the grid during a spin, so the number of ways or the size of a multiplier isn't fixed when the reels stop. Game names often include the mechanic, as in San Quentin xWays and Fire in the Hole xBomb, so you can tell what a game does from its title.

Duck Hunters: one game, one visible meter

We currently list one Nolimit City game:

GameRTPVolatilityMax winReleased
Duck Hunters96.05%Extreme30,000x11 February 2025

Duck Hunters is a scatter-pays cascade slot, a format more often associated with other studios, redesigned in Nolimit City's style. Every cell on the grid holds its own multiplier, and it doubles each time a winning symbol is cleared from that cell. In the base game those values reset after each spin. In the bonus rounds they stay. Bombs, xWays symbols and the Day boosters all exist to push those cell values higher, up to a limit of x8,192 per position.

The result is typical of the studio. There is one mechanic you can follow, a hit frequency of 17.07%, and a top award of 30,000x the bet. That is higher than the 25,000x cap common in Pragmatic Play's recent slots.

RTP and the extreme end of volatility

Nolimit City game pages show an RTP and a max win for each title. For Duck Hunters, our review records lower configurations reported as low as 92.04%, below the 96.05% top figure. The game looks the same in every build, so the game's information screen is the place to check which one is running.

"Extreme" is a volatility rating above the High label many studios use. In long-run terms, it means results are concentrated in a small number of very large outcomes, with long stretches of little or nothing in between.

Who should try it

Nolimit City suits players who like to understand a mechanic well and don't mind seeing their virtual coin balance fall for a long time. It also suits players who are drawn to unusual themes. It is a poor fit if you want calm sessions, frequent small results or light-hearted art.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Distinctive trademarked mechanics that game titles name openly.
  • A small, focused catalogue rather than a flood of releases.
  • High top awards, such as 30,000x in Duck Hunters.

Cons

  • Extreme volatility means long stretches with little return.
  • Some themes are deliberately provocative and won't suit everyone.
