"High volatility" appears on a lot of game cards, and it can hide very different designs. Three of the slots we've reviewed show this well. Big Bass Splash caps at 5,000x the bet, Huff N' Even More Puff Grand at 10,000x and Duck Hunters at 30,000x. All three hold most of their value in bonus rounds, but they get there by different routes.

Every figure below comes from our game records and the studios' own pages. The multipliers are game design limits, not results anyone has reported.

Nolimit City rates Duck Hunters as Extreme, a step above High. We use the studio's label rather than grouping it with the others.

Big Bass Splash: a ladder with a 10x top rung

Pragmatic Play's page sets out the whole bonus in two sentences. Three, four or five scatters trigger 10, 15 or 20 free spins, and wilds collect fish symbols worth up to 5,000x. Every fourth wild retriggers the feature with 10 more spins, adding a 2x multiplier on the first retrigger, 3x on the second and 10x on the third. Before the round starts, up to five modifiers can be added, including extra fish symbols, wilds or spins.

That ladder is why the game is volatile. A fish collected after the third retrigger pays ten times what it would at the start. A round that never reaches the fourth wild usually stays small. The base game has no fisherman wild, so fish landing there can't be collected. The launch release, dated 23 June 2022, confirms the 5x3, 10-line layout and the 5,000x ceiling.

With the lowest ceiling of the three, the swings here are the smallest. The shape is still the same: most of the value sits in one feature.

Huff N' Even More Puff Grand: the wheel decides the ceiling

Light & Wonder's iGaming page for Huff N' Even More Puff Grand lists a maximum exposure of 10,000x and five RTP versions, from 96% down to 87%. The description mentions Straw, Stick, Brick and Diamond frames, enhanced wheels that climb to Super and Ultra tiers, and houses, mansions and palaces revealed when the wolf blows.

Our review follows that climb. Buzz Saw scatters decide which wheel spins, and the top fixed prize sits only on the Ultra Wheel. So the route to 10,000x runs through a rare upgrade path, not a long run of good free spins. Getting to the Ultra Wheel is the first hurdle.

The five RTP versions matter more here than in most games. The 87% setting returns nine units less per 100 staked over the long run than the 96% setting, yet the screen looks the same. Our RTP explainer covers why that difference only shows over very large samples.

Duck Hunters: every cell is its own multiplier

Nolimit City's page for Duck Hunters describes a scatter-pays grid where eight or more matching symbols win. Each position cleared by a win gets a x2 multiplier. If that position wins again on a later drop, its multiplier doubles, up to x8192. Bombs clear a 3x3 area, and xWays symbols raise a position's multiplier by 2, 4 or 8 times. In free spins, position multipliers are kept from spin to spin. Three, four or five bonus symbols start the Duck Hunt, Hawk Eye or Big Game rounds.

The studio also publishes the numbers behind the design. Hit frequency is 17.07%, free spins come about 1 in 203 spins, and the chance of the 30,000x maximum is 1 in 22 million. Once total wins pass the cap, the round ends and 30,000x is awarded.

Fewer than one spin in five pays anything, and the ceiling is reached through multipliers that keep compounding. That is what earns the game its Extreme label.

What the comparison shows

A higher cap usually comes with fewer winning spins and more depending on one sequence, but the mechanics are what separate these three:

  • Big Bass Splash stores value in a counter: collect enough wilds and the multiplier steps up.
  • Huff N' Even More Puff Grand stores value in which wheel you land.
  • Duck Hunters stores value on the grid itself, one position at a time.

None of these routes can be timed, and a long gap without a bonus doesn't make one more likely. For the terms used here, see the slot features glossary and how to read a paytable. All three games can be played free with virtual coins.
